Understanding the Data
What each specification means for your household and budget.
Energy Rating (A to G)
The EU energy label uses a scale from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). This rating considers the appliance's energy consumption relative to its size and function.
An A-rated washing machine uses significantly less electricity per year than a C-rated model of similar capacity. Over the appliance's lifetime, this difference translates to substantial savings on electricity bills.
Annual Energy Consumption (kWh/year)
This figure shows estimated yearly electricity consumption based on standard usage patterns. Multiply this by your electricity rate to calculate annual operating costs.
For example, a washing machine using 150 kWh/year at €0.15 per kWh costs approximately €22.50 annually to operate. A less efficient model using 250 kWh/year would cost €37.50 annually.
Water Consumption
Washing machines and dishwashers display water usage per cycle or annually. Lower consumption reduces both water bills and environmental impact.
Modern efficient dishwashers use as little as 9 liters per cycle, while older models might use 15-20 liters. This difference adds up over hundreds of cycles per year.
Noise Level (dB)
Measured in decibels, this indicates how loud the appliance operates. Lower values mean quieter operation, which matters especially for open-plan living spaces.
A washing machine rated at 50 dB is noticeably quieter than one at 60 dB. Every 10 dB increase represents roughly a doubling of perceived loudness.
Making Your Decision
Consider these factors when comparing appliances.
Define Your Needs
Consider household size, usage frequency, available space, and specific features you require.
Set Your Budget
Include both purchase price and estimated operating costs over the appliance's expected lifespan.
Compare Efficiency
Look at energy ratings, annual consumption figures, and water usage to identify the most efficient options.
Evaluate Features
Balance efficiency with features that matter to you, such as capacity, programs, noise level, and smart connectivity.
